"In the past, up in the northern region of Japan, bags were hand woven with mountain grape vines. In a similar fashion, this basket is hand woven by farmers during their off season with Indonesian rattan and pinewood in the southern part of china in Guangxi. It is a quiet, inland town, with no airport. Even with a days work, only 3 can be made. We decided not to add anything to the bag other than treating the surface and adding a plate to reinforce the strength. Normally we don't get involved in this level of handcraftmanship, but we were drawn to the balance of the color, shape and details involved. There is something about this item that pulls out memories from the past but at the same time it is somewhere in-between nostalgic and modern. There is a "strength" in this basket as it is made to carry the crops during harvest."
